Dear NetRexx list subscribers,
I am very happy to announce the 2010 Rexx Language Symposium.
We have decided that we could not allow the year 2010 to pass
us by without a symposium. But not only considerations of continuity
contributed to this decision; we have also reached a stage in the
NetRexx open sourcing process that requires us to assemble an
architecture review board for future language development; there is an
important release of the open source ooRexx interpreter on hand; and
the Systems Rexx component for z/OS has been delivered by IBM and has
hit most data centers. These are only a few of the recent
developments.
The formal announcement can be found at:
http://www.rexxla.org/events/2010/announcement.html
The call for presentations can be found here:
http://www.rexxla.org/events/2010/cfp.html
The symposium will be held December 11th - 14th in Amsterdam and
Almere, The Netherlands. The program will be published shortly,
contingent on the proposals for presentations and the expected
attendance. For this specific symposium, most things will be out of
the ordinary. Entrance is free for RexxLA members; non-members are
welcome on the condition that they will be come a member for the
remainder of the membership period. Yearly membership is $24; that is, today, slightly less than 18 Euros.
The venue is sponsored by a company that, like so many, depends on Rexx
for a large part of its revenue.
It is no secret that, due to various factors, but very significantly
the economic downturn and the changed travel and education allowances
of the larger IT companies, attendance has been low for the more
recent symposia. To enable a large part of the membership to have
access to the proceedings, we will experiment this time with web
access in the form of video, blog and twitter coverage. For the
members who can fit this into their schedules, and are able to travel,
we would like to cordially invite you to join us in this milestone
symposium.
It is already known that their will be several NetRexx related presentations. Also,
their will be a special workshop for the NetRexx Architecture Board.
I look forward to your feedback and hope to see you in person next month.
best regards,
René Jansen
President, Rexx Language Association.
