A-HEM!

LPARs are implemented by a microcode version of _z/VM_, specifically
the CP component.  z/OS is not a virtualizing operating system.  VM
was the _original_ playing-field-leveler.

A mis-typing Chip; I really meant z/VM not z/OS,  I've known that since first time I saw the LPAR configuration program on a S/370 3090 h/w configuration console in the mid 80's.  (More than just CP too, I distinctly remember one of the panels looking like LISTFILE.)
