Crudzilla Web Application Builder adds alpha NetRexx support

Fernando Cassia-2
http://sourceforge.net/projects/crudzillawebapplicationbuilder/

Description

Crudzilla Web Application Builder is a browser based web development product with an innovative middle-ware that will make the competition look primitive.

It runs on the jvm so you are not limited by environment. You can run it on your laptop, company server or even on a cloud service like AWS.

It supports Java, Ruby, Python, JavaScript, Groovy, Clojure.

Source included so you can modify it to fit your need.

Today we are releasing another important update to CWAB. (...)

We've also added alpha-level integration of the NetRexx language.

CWAB uses the excellent CodeMirror editor. For syntax highlighting we used the Go language mode as a starting point and added the NetRexx keywords. Unfortunately we don't have the resources at the moment to devote to building a fully functional NetRexx mode, but if anyone wants to do that, we'll be happy to integrate.

We also integrated the JSR-223 implementation of NetRexx so that it can be used to build applications on the CWAB platform. Unfortunately the current implementation is quite buggy. We encounter classloader issues when certain objects where placed on the CWAB argument map. Basically there is a problem dealing with objects bounded to JSR-223 scripting engine. In general the behavior seems erratic.

We are tentatively including NetRexx support by default, however depending on interest level we may relegate NetRexx support to optional, meaning a user would have to manually enable support.

Hi Fernando,

well I also thought that others would beat me in replying and checking this out. While the inclusion of NetRexx in a new Web framework is great news, it uses a very new facility in a not-yet released NetRexx version - and I am sure that when the problems (as indicated by the tweet on the subject) are stated clearly, they will be solved.

So let us follow this closely.

best regards,

René.

I’ll bite!

I took a quick look, but did not want to post without diving in and getting a proper swim.

However it is great that NetRexx has a new friend!

One thought that came to mind is to question whether the JSR233 version used is from the upcoming release, or whether it was it acquired from older works.

So, Fernando, are you in touch with these guys?

                Dave.

Unfortunately no. I  saw them announce support of other JVM language (I think it was Clojure, could also be JRuby, my memory is fuzzy* ATM), "thanks to JSR223" where they also asked "if you want suport added to other JVM language with JSR223 support, let us know". I mentioned them in passing "well, NetRexx doesnt have built-in JSR223 support but there is an external JAR implementation that adds JSR223 support" and pointed them towards Kermit's work.

Then weks later I was surprised by the new version announcement and the specific mention of Netrexx!. That was as far as my involvement went.

I wonder if the problems they experienced were due to recent Java 1.7 APIs used by them when compiling their code and NetRexx reliance on an older Java API base? Just thinking aloud...
