Hi there,
was asked to post the announcement on this forum as well, as especially this group may take immediately advantage of it. In essence "BSF4ooRexx" camouflages Java as ooRexx, in the process alleviating one from strict typing (ie. no need to cast etc.). The latest versions of BSF4ooRexx also allow one to implement interface/abstract methods directly in ooRexx, such that one can supply in effect ooRexx objects to Java addListenerXYZ methods. Over the years the functionality has been augmented, such that it has become possible to easily drive OpenOffice in a platform independent manner, and also to make ooRexx available as a macro language for OOo (you can create and run ooRexx macros from within OOo). This version for the first time integrates with the Windows or Linux desktops. It is quick and easy to install, reinstall and uninstall without leaving any traces on your machine. There are numerous nutshell examples that one can play with and to see how Java can be camouflaged as Rexx! --- One point for this group, especially: BSF4ooRexx has special support for NetRexx' Rexx type, such that it is straightforward to use Rexx arguments between both worlds. As you may infer from this, I have never envisioned the one to replace totally the other environment, but the possibiity to combine both with unprecedent power for both worlds: one can use ooRexx from NetRexx apps as an interpretative scripting language, and one could use NetRexx/Java classes from ooRexx as if they were ooRexx classes. It is fun to see how one sends ooRexx messages to Java objects! :) ---rony -------- Original Message --------
Dear Fellow RexxLA'ers ! In the past weeks I have been busily working on creating a "one-click" installer for the BSF4ooRexx package as you know. In the process one important goal was to make it as easy as possible on the interested Rexx programmer to install (and uninstall) BSF4ooRexx. In addition, the interested Rexx programmer should become able to easily employ the example scripts by just double-clicking on a Rexx script that uses Java or OOo. To allow for this all the infrastructure (including ooRexx itself) was integrated with the desktop. So after the one-click install you may immediately be able to explore and experiment with this infrastructure. This is to announce the availability of a stable beta, the URLs:
Installation lasts appr. 2.3 seconds on a fast machine, maybe longer on a slower machine... ;) Support is either via the netnews group <a moz-do-not-send="true" class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="news:comp.lang.rexx"><news:comp.lang.rexx> or the private e-mail list of the Rexx Language Association (http://www.RexxLA.org). ---rony P.S.: If you want to reinstall or uninstall BSF4ooRexx then just pick the appropriate action from the "BSF4ooRexx -> Installation" menu. _______________________________________________ Ibm-netrexx mailing list [hidden email] Attached Message Part (182 bytes) Download Attachment |
