Doesn't seem to be such a bad solution to me, especially for large applications.

But, do you need a language switch?

The application will always try to start in the users current language when no specific locale is provided in the application.conf

For us this was enough. If a user runs a windows in English, they must be confident enough with the language to use our application in English as well :)

When the user is running windows (or mac/linux) in Dutch (or another supported language), the application will start in dutch.
