M$ UFEI BIOS attempt to lock out linux

billfen
I have changed the subject for this topic.

M$ has been working for years to lock out linux at the bios level.  Check
UFEI, Intel, etc.  Here is an interesting link
http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread755577/pg
There will probably be some motherboards that will be open, but it is
likely that most major manufacturers like HP, Dell, etc will succumb to the
financial pressure from M$ for the bulk of their products under the guise
of "better security", thus locking in windows.  They have folded in the
past including paying the "M$ tax" on all their boxes, even if linux is
installed. (I see you are IBM, as I was.  It will be interesting to see
what they do.)  There will probably be law suits, but M$ has already been
convicted of illegal monopolistic practice, and it hasn't stopped them.
Evil company, imho.

Did I miss an announcement? What is this about?

Surely part of the issue is that installation is a one-time process. But
no-one's environment is static: One can guarantee that, if user X has just
installed NetRexx, then before too long they'll be installing something
else & possibly another java update-or-whatever. I was with Bill
initially, but I can see the sense Rene's approach.
