Thomas, Netrexx rus on z/os under USS or via a BPXBATCH job (against the USS install.  To install in USS follow same procedure as on distributed Unix.

Hello there, again,

by the way, Rexx2nrx.zip  on my home-page www.Rexx2Nrx.com does
(since my update in November 2009) already *INCLUDE* (after asking Mike,
If I am allowed to do that)  NetRexx (vs. 2.02) as part of the package.

Thus, ....

It might then even be possible to run Rexx2Nrx on a zOS machine....

I would be really interested to know what I have to do to TRY this.

At this, current, minute, unfortunatele, I do have *no access* to an IBM
mainframe...

But I would like to know whether we could handle this... And how.

Just a *to do list* would help at the current minute...

Thomas.

NetRexx on a zOS machine.

Thomas.Schneider.Wien
Hello Mike Measel,
sorry to say that I *have* been fluent  at GEISCO's  (General
Electric Information Services) MARK III Service,  whare I was the author
of a couple of packages like EURO:LOGOS  (a general  Database Retrieval
Program), which has been used worldwide on GEISCO's Mark III; and
EURO:ARCHIV, a source code
maintenance utility I did write decades ago.

As I did then work more than 12 years only on the PC (starting from
DOS 1.0), running my own company,
called the *Vienna Software Team*, I did then concentrate on C, and a
couple of 4th generation languages, namely $GL from Craigmore house.

Then I did switch back to the 'Main-Frame' (IBM) area, working on CMS
and IBM VSE.
First (again, as a student) in PL/I and CICS (and CMS), and then in
COBOL. Then in Microfocud COBOL
at Donauland (an Austrian book-club), daughter of Bertelsmann....

BUT: I am *not FLUENT in UNIX, nor in zOS...*.

Hence, I would need (maybe by private mail ?) a more detailed advise....

It's a pity...
Any advise/help will be appreciated...

Thomas.

NetRexx on a zOS machine.

Thomas, USS is Unix System Services, also known as OMVS.  The problem I have seen mostly is that it is often not configured in the customers environment.  So from a TSO prompt, to access it, you just type OMVS and you are dropped into a "unix" shell environment.  The only other option for running nextrexx on z is to run a z/linux guest and run it there.  Our performance tests indicate that z/linux far outperforms USS.

What kind of z system are you working on now?

Ps. Happy to help get you going but it may take a few questions & answers to get there.

NetRexx on a zOS machine.

Thomas.Schneider.Wien
Hello Mike,

I do have currently *NO ACCESS* to any IBM zOS machine.... And that's
part of my problem.
I'm currenlty working on a Windows XP machine, but did learn,
thatRexx2Nrx does quite happily
run on an IBM UNIX Machine in the IBM Labroratory in Beoblingen,
Germany, where a *student*
did use it successfully to translate some IBM-internal software from
'classic Rexx' to Java...

Years ago....

I'm actually already in Pension (63 years old) ....
But still working a bit (or, sometimes, too much ...)

We currently are doing an offer of my PL/I implementation of DB-123 (see
www.db-123.com for details),
to the 'BRZ' (the 'BundesRechenZentrum' of Austria, the biggest cluster
of computers we do have here in Austria....

Actually, the offer has been made by IBM Austria...   (using my software
www.db-123.com)

Still under investigation by the prospect.

Kind regards from Vienna,
Thomas.
