Hi Rene,
To describe NetRexx as having a "Large Class Library" seems to me to invite ridicule. George _______________________________________________ Ibm-netrexx mailing list [hidden email] Online Archive : http://ibm-netrexx.215625.n3.nabble.com/ |
By forwarding all the tools, classes, etc we all wrote in NetRexx for our own usage to www.netrexx.org (including it's source and HTML documentation) in a manner probably still to be organized by Rene and his group will surely give a *Large Class Library* ver soon :-) Thomas. ========================================================== Am 10.06.2011 06:01, schrieb George Hovey: Hi Rene, --

Rene,
Of course everyone here understood what you meant, but a newbie won't (Help - I installed NetRexx and tried the examples, but I can't find the class library. Where do I get it?). Related to this: we've seen from this forum that some people are Java-huggers while others pine for simplification. Perhaps you could pitch NetRexx as dual purpose -- capable of industrial strength OO programming, or traditional procedural programming without requiring OO knowledge. Hi George,
you might or might not know What I did when delivering ancient Rexx2Nrx (loook at www.Rexx2Nrx.com). I did *also deliver* a set of *classes* implementing any/all missing formerly classic Rexx Builtin FUNCTIONS, both in a Function and/or Method implemtentation. Like RexxFile, RexxDate, etc, etc. As I did write Rexx2Nrx originally in IBM CMS Copiled Rexx, Rexx2Nrx has been, all the time, also (quietly) IBM Rexx Compiler (IBM RexxC) compatible. No matter to say, but I really did *use* IBM compiled Rexx to *boots-trap* Rexx2Nrx from my CMS machine to Windows. As another matter of fact, a couple of IBM Organizations (like Boeblingen <grin>) did use Rexx2Nrx to *port* their IBM compiled Rexx applications from classic compiled Rexx to NetRexx ... .-) Nowaday, I did use a PRIVATE version to convert all this 'classic Rexx code' to NetRexx. This process is finished. I've (too late) decided to abandon classic IBM compiled Rexx compatibility. *But*: I'm still able to translate *any *IBM classic compiled Rexx* program to NetRexx, which is a major step forward, I personally think. I'm now willing to forward all of this code to www.netrexx.org, but am still waiting for Reene's reply which package names I should use in this new environment. I will personally maintain ReyC (my Rey Compiler) for private usage, and as an implementation mechanism of new features *I* would desire in NetRexx 3,4,5 ... But I'm also seeking for a release mechansim which would allow me to NOT double work, what MFC has so well done... Greetings from Vienna, Thomas. ========================================================== Am 10.06.2011 14:15, schrieb George Hovey: Thomas, --
