Hello all,
I'm doing a small project which be of interest to you: http://javaadvent.com/ - a blog which will post 24 high-quality Java related articles between the 1st and 24th of December. What does this have to do with NetRexx you may ask? As far as I know NetRexx was the first language besides Java to run on the JVM. As such I thing it deserves a short introductory on the Java Advent blog so that us youngsters don't forget about it (or maybe get to know it for the first time). If somebody is interested in writing this article, please contact me directly. Thank you, Attila Balazs _______________________________________________ Ibm-netrexx mailing list [hidden email] Online Archive : http://ibm-netrexx.215625.n3.nabble.com/ |
Hi Attilla,
I am available to write it if you want and no-one else does. Thanks for reminding us of NetRexx being first. There was some doubt in my mind that Kawa was actually there first, but careful reading of Per Bother's web pages about Kawa has shown that NetRexx 0.50 was released before coding on Kawa begun. I have corrected the NetRexx article on Wikipedia accordingly and put in the reference. best regards, Rene Vincent Jansen. Thank you, I would like to take you up on that offer. What day of
publication (between the 1st and 24th of December) would best suite your schedule? Also, thanks for the pointer to Kawa, didn't know about it. It's incredible (and little sad) of how much history we have in such a young field as CS which gets forgotten. Attila,
later in the month would be better because I have some time then. What about the 20th? Kawa was part of a plan to have an Emacs in Java I understand. It is not related to the Kawa VM. I saw I misspelled Per Bothner's name, for which I apologise to him. I met him in SF some years ago and he is a pleasant fellow. I agree that our field treats its history very badly and is often forced to repeat it. In that respect is the story of Rexx an example of continuity. IP law is one of the great dangers in historiography and I am particularly happy to see that most important Rexx implementations are open source and do not run the risk to go down with a particular platform. Please be in touch for any suggestions about the content and tone of the article. best regards, René Jansen. Yes, the 20th is great. I added you as an author to the blog (you
should receive an email to this end). Also, you can write the article any time in advance, the blog has a "scheduled post" feature. I'll be in touch. Thank you again.
