NetRexxJe's present and future

David Requena
Dear All,

Well, here I am back to the list, subscribed from a different email address
this time.

I'd like to apologise for disappearing and not replying to any NetrexxJe
requests that may have been sent to my previous address.
These're though times and I got laid-off from my previous employment
last September so any email sent to old (work) address didn't reach me.
I haven't had any spare time for pet projects either...
Anyway, it's over now so to the point!

I kindly request any bugs, issues or feature requests related to my previous
releases of NetrexxJe which may have arisen be resent to the list or to this
mailbox. I'll attend them before any new development.

Current outline for near NetrexxJe's future is:

- Attend/fix past bugs/issues if any
- Get the plugin on official jEdit website so it can e installed from plugin
manager. This could be well a take over the old one or well via fork and
rename. We'll see what's jEdit's people take is on the subject.
- Integration with project manager and ant plugins so we finally have a
multi-file IDE.
- Evaluation of further integration with Kermit's NetrexxScript and Thomas's
Rexx2Nrx after discusing the matter with them.
- Other development directions which may be brought to the list or already
outlined at the readme.

I've been subscribed to the list for a few days and I'm very glad to find it
with such a high traffic. Few months ago there where loooong lapses between
any 2/3 mail interchanges!!
Any one has a pointer to an archive of this list traffic? I've been looking
hard for it without any success. Found some refferences to an ibm.com based
archive but these're dead links nowadays.

NetRexxJe distribution remain available at:

   http://personales.ya.com/drequena/NetRexxJe-1.0.2a-bin.zip<http://personales.ya.com/drequena/NetRexxJe-1.0.2-bin.tgz>

http://personales.ya.com/drequena/NetRexxJe-1.0.2a.zip<http://personales.ya.com/drequena/NetRexxJe-1.0.2-bin.tgz>
(includes
sources)

Please substitute "zip" with "tgz" if your OS prefers that.

NetRexxJe's present and future

Thomas.Schneider.Wien
Hello David,
   thanks foryour message!

first, I do assume you took over NetRexxJe-development/maintenance
from Satguru Srivastava. :-)
second, I wanted to download the 'sources' from the URL you
indicated, but the URL points
to a '.tgz'-file I cannot opem. I'm working on Windows XP, and would
need a ZIP!.
I would like to have a look at the source, as I'm planning to release
a Rexx2NrxPlugin for JEdit-- in concert
with Kermit and you!
third, I would like to ask the group if we should discuss this -- and
how to do it -- ON this group
(for the info of the group and for the ability to make *corrections* in
an early stage)
**or* we should discuss this privately...

What actually would be needed is a RexxJe plugin hightlighting the
'classic Rexx', and possibly also
the 'Open Object Rexx' verbs, words, und builtin functions and methods etc.

We surely can get a list of those from the ooRexx people (namely David
Ashley,thru REXXLA).

I'm currently reading & trying what Kermit did with NetRexxScript, but I
Do believe a BUNDLED
approach would be advantagous to all of us.

Kindly,
Tom (from cool Vienna, Austria).

NetRexxJe's present and future

David Requena
Hi Thomas,

Well, I didn't really take over NetrexxJe... basically the project was
abandoned in a state that wouldn't load in
recent versions of jEdit so I fixed it just enough to work with jedit 4.3
and for my own use. Then someone asked
in the list and I offered what I had. As that seemed to stir some interest I
started adding some features and such.
Then I went 404 for reasons stated before.

Never felt comfortable with this arrangement as I couldn't contact Satguru
for years as hard as I've tried. Now
I think if NetrexxJe is going to be supported by me in the future, then it's
probably going to be forked and renamed.
At sourceforge's oficial jedit plugins repository the subject seems to be
blocked at the moment..

Sorry about the links inconvenience. This is an html mail kirk. Pasted the
links and edited the text but seems that
hrefs remained unchanged.

Here're correct links for all files:

http://personales.ya.com/drequena/NetRexxJe-1.0.2a-bin.zip
http://personales.ya.com/drequena/NetRexxJe-1.0.2a-bin.tgz
http://personales.ya.com/drequena/NetRexxJe-1.0.2a.zip (includes sources)
http://personales.ya.com/drequena/NetRexxJe-1.0.2a.tgz (includes sources)

Source distributions include everithing needed to build the project using
ant.

Best regards,
David

NetRexxJe's present and future

Kermit Kiser
David ;

Having worked through the hoops to get NetRexxScript published in
"Plugin Central", I would be happy to help you with the process. The
jEdit developers seemed pleased to have help with updating plugins when
I offered it on the Sourceforge jEdit developers list a while back. The
Ant build for NetRexxScript should work for NetRexxJe with very little
modification. The developers build and test on Linux and MacOS as well
as Windows, so it has to work everywhere. NetRexx is not part of the
standard Ant installations on jEdit or Linux, so the proper build setup
has to be documented also.

NetRexxJe's present and future

David Requena
Dear Kermit,

I'll be applying NetRexxDE for inclusion at plugin central in the next few
days. Of course I'll be happy to to have your help in the process.

Then, you recommend asking for permission at the jEdit developers' list as a
frits step?

Thanks,
David
