As avid twitterers already might know, Matt Emmons of IBM informed me yesterday that the IBM NetRexx pages (
http://www-01.ibm.com/software/awdtools/netrexx/ ) have been recently modified to indicate the source code transfer. In addition to the previous content, it now states:
"As part of IBM's continued support of the Open Source community, IBM NetRexx source code has been provided by IBM to the Rexx Language Association (RexxLA). The code will be available under an open source project from the RexxLA under International Components for Unicode License (ICU) V1.8.1. By contributing NetRexx to the Open Source community, IBM is encouraging innovation around REXX and REXX applications.
For more information, refer to the RexxLA Web site http://www.RexxLA.org (link resides outside of ibm.com). IBM will remove the IBM NetRexx Web site and associated Web pages after the RexxLA download is available."
To clarify this last sentence, this will happen after the 3.01 release is out in September 2011. (adding the year to avoid painful jokes here).
I suggest that everone saves the IBM pages somewhere. Most of the content will be available, over time, from NetRexx.org, but it is never a bad idea to safeguard history, so be sure to archive the site for yourself if you see any need.
Next to this, I would like to suggest that being a part of NetRexx history is far more interesting than bickering over what should be said on a mailing list at a particular point in time. (When in doubt, please be aware that [hidden email] is the designated place for this activity).
For the 3.01 release, a lot of work still needs to be done. If you can spare the time, even if it is for proofreading documents or testing installers, please do let me know!
best regards,
René Jansen.
