Why Zip file of Class are not compressed ?

Excuse all for my ignorance and for the offtopic :)

But i have see that my classes.zip file in \java11\lib for os/2 is a
zip file where the files are stored and not compressed like in jar file

Why ?

I'm not 100% sure of why, because with the JRE (Java Runtime Environment),
they are shipped as a JAR. Maybe it's just backwards compatibility with
1.0.x days when there were no JARs..
