jEedit5.1.0 install.exe problems

ThSITC
Hello there,

as already mentione, I did have quite serious Virus (russian D3D9Windows
Fake) and Trojan
(The Time Machine, the most agressive Trojan I did ever encounter)
problems on my own
computers, since past October 2013.

Now, I did originally want to *throw Windows XP* with all those damned
security holes
out, at all, and did install Debian Linux with double boot, having
Windows XP now
on my F: disk under GRUB.

Have already successfully installed NetRexx 3.02 and Java SDK 7 in both
environments,
and am currently trying to install jEdit5.1.0 from the
jEdit5.1.0install.exe I got
from SourceForge.

However, when starting jEdit5.1.0install.exe on my Windows XP user,
which has
Windows XP on disk 'F:' in my instance, the installer does abort with
the error message:

****************************************************
* The installer could not create the                   *
* destination directory.                                       *
* Maybe You do not have write permission ?  *
*****************************************************

Of course, the Windows XP user "ths" where I want to install
me own soft, Java SDK, and jEdit does have Windows XP
ADMIN rights ...

My suspection (sic!) is that maybe jEdit does want to install on the
C: disk (which is *not* avail, as it is used for the Linux opsys).

Does anybody of You have a recommendation what to do next
to get jEdit running in this my new environment ?

Thanks in advance to any help&/advise I'm getting :-)

Have a reluctant weeken, all, anyway.

Thomas Schneider.

Re: jEedit5.1.0 install.exe problems

Kermit Kiser
That is a jEdit question rather than a NetRexx question and you will probably get better answers on the jEdit users list. But here are some suggestions anyway:

1) if the install starts, there will be an option to select where jEdit is placed - change the location to your F drive before allowing the install to proceed.
2) try the Java based installer (jar file)
3) Windows allows you to alter the letter assigned to disk drives. You may be able to change F to C or make C an alias for F.

Re: jEedit5.1.0 install.exe problems

Hi Kermit, You helpful friend there:

First, I know that this a jEdit based question, *not Netrexx related*.

Thought only, that I shall get a quick answer on this so helpful group, *and also*
other Netrexx users might be interested, as well.... ;-)

ad 1.) The install mentioned below in my original mail did *not* ask for any place at all.
ad 2.) I shall now go ahead and download the Java based installer (the jar file)
ad 3.) Would like *only to do that* when 2.) above fails.

Anyway, thanks for the prompt help&advise from the experts.

Shall *not* ask again here at ibm-netrexx about that problem, but shall put in a short msg,
when I did succeed ...

Nice weekend, again, and thanks a lot, Kermit :-)

Re: jEedit5.1.0 install.exe problems

ThSITC
Just to report that this problem is *solved now* on my desk :-)

Hi Kermit, and all ...

1.) Obviously, in my ignorance, I did try to install *Jedit* twice.
2.) Also Obviously, after my inspections, *jEdit does WRITE protect* his own *installation Folder*

Thus, as a matter of fact, the *second Installation Trial* did:

(a) not ask for any Parameters.
(b) gave the error-message mentioned below in my original mail.

After *REMOVING* the *Write Protection Flag* in directory F:\Jedit\, where I did install it originally,
everything works wnow (for me).

Sending this reply only for the records, when others are as stupid as I am ;-)

Greetings from Vienna, anyway, and do have a sunny and nice week, all :-)
