the 'spam' is a tralier on the messages placed there by egroups.com - the site that hosts this mailing list for free.
I'm sorry you're upset by it, but when the list went from the old site to the new one, ads were added on.
The only thing I can do for this is to upgrade the list to a non-advertising one by paying a fee each month, or move the list elsewhere.
Personally, the services provided for free are pretty good, so I'm loathe to move the list, but if it's really that much of a hassle...
And none of the list resources (time, site, me etc) are provided by IBM.
